TIM is experimenting with a new satellite broadcasting technology for television

By Carlos PIRES, the

The Italian group TIM announces that it has experimented with the distribution of the multicast signal on a satellite network.

The experiment, which took place on the TimVision Box in Adaptive Bit Rate (ABR) multicast mode, was carried out in collaboration with Eutelsatowner and manager of the satellite Eutelsat KONNECTdedicated to providing internet services in Europe and Africa, and with Broadpeakwhich provided the content distribution solution nanoCDN.

The multicast feature allows events to be broadcast live without duplicating transmission streams, enabling the use of the highest quality live streaming, especially for video content transmitted at HD and UHD resolutions. In this way, the same content is distributed indiscriminately and simultaneously to connected users, without occupying additional network and transmission resources, also guaranteeing the simultaneous availability of adequate bandwidth for all other satellite services.
