Mesa Set To Be First AZ City To Offer Fiber Internet From Google Fiber

MESA, AZ — Google Fiber is set to bring its fiber-optic internet network to Mesa pending city council approval, the company announced Friday.

The Mesa City Council will vote on measures allowing Google Fiber to place a fiber optic cable network in the public right-of-way, bringing gigabit speed, fiber optic internet to Mesa residents.

The city is currently served by Internet network providers Cox Communications and CenturyLink.

If the fiber optic license agreement is approved, Google Fiber will begin engineering and operations efforts immediately and begin construction in Mesa in early 2023. Although it may take several years, residents can get online right from the start. end of 2023, as Google Fiber completes some areas before others, said Ashley Church, general manager of the West region of Google Fiber.

“Mayor Giles, all the staff there, have been really, really great about wanting to find a fiber-to-the-home solution for their residents in Mesa,” Church said. “Obviously we still have a lot of milestones to cross before we reach the finish line, but this has been a very good start to the relationship. »
