It’s already a historic record and OM’s season however, is only just beginning. With the arrival of Jordan Veretout this Friday, Olympique de Marseille has recruited a new player to fill its 2022-2023 season. At 11 million euros, the cost of the compensation paid to Roma, the Marseille club exceeds this month of August, the 70 million euros invested in the transfer market. It is therefore nothing less than a historical record.
More than €70 million invested in this transfer window, a record for OM
And it’s not over, as the summer market continues until the end of August 31 and January will allow a new window to strengthen. Between new players (Clauss, Suarez, Veretout, Isaak Touré) and those for whom the club exercised purchase options at the end of last year (Guendouzi, Lopez, Ünder), OM spent 73.4 millions of euros. That is to say more than seven million more than his previous season the most spending.
Second highest spending club in Ligue 1 since market opening
It was in 2018-2019, already under the command of Frank McCourt, at the property. That season, OM wiped out their own record beaten a year earlier (2017-18 = €62m). If there are still weeks and more to act on the transfer market, OM will necessarily have to act, in the other direction, than that of the transfer of players. So far, it has brought in only 7 million, compared to 32 million, the 2018-2019 season of the previous record. Marseille is also second in Ligue 1, behind PSG for the first investor in the market, with 106.5 million euros paid since June 10 and the official opening of this transfer window.
